Morphinum aceticum, the acetate salt of the alkaloid Morphia derived from Opium, embodies the narcotic and hypnotic properties of Opium in a refined form—much like Atropine. It is less stimulating than crude Opium, but more profoundly sedative, pruritic, and depressant to the central nervous system. Morphinum aceticum exerts a marked influence on the sensorium, leading to mental dullness, functional sluggishness of internal organs, and extreme pain sensitivity. It is especially suited to states of collapse, nervous prostration, restlessness with insomnia, and hypersensitive neuralgic or gastrointestinal complaints.
