Euphrasia
Eye Drops

 INTRODUCTION
Cineraria Maritima Euphrasia eye drops is a product of Research & Development of SBL in collaboration with BOIRON, France. It is a combination of well balanced formula of homoeopathic therapeutics for the treatment of conjunctivitis and other inflammatory conditions of eyes. Conjunctiva is a mucous membrane covering the anterior sclera (bulbar conjunctiva) and is reflected in the fornices to cover the tarsal surface of the lids (tarsal conjunctiva).

The severe type of conjunctivitis is known as trachoma which can cause blindness. Conjunctivitis, therefore, needs quick diagnosis and treatment. Dr.J.H.Clarke mentioned successful use of Cineraria Maritima in cases of early cataract as an external application. Other drugs listed below also tend to reinforce the action against cataract formation.

CLINICAL TRIAL REPORT OF CINERARIA MARITIMA EYE DROPS
by Dr. Ronald Questel, Clinical Expert
certified by the Ministry of Republique, France.

Double-blind, randomised, placebo controlled clinical trials were carried out in 60 patients suffering from Conjunctivitis. They were allotted to 2 groups of 30 patients each, after randomization. The selected symptoms were pain, lachrymation, photophobia, exudation, pruritis, vascular dilation, oedema and analysis of macrophotographs of conjunctival capillarograms. The activity and tolerance of two preparations bearing the code numbers 1995 (Cineraria Maritima Eye Drops) and 1996 (Placebo Eyedrops - composed of solvent) were compared after 6 days of treatment with the use of 1 drop of the eyedrops, six times daily. The clinical investigations kept tract of the pathological symptoms with three options : Unchanged, improved and eliminated.

This study has proved that the efficacy of the product coded 1995(Cineraria Maritima Eye Drops) showed therapeutic benefit much superior to the group that received product coded 1996 (Placebo Eyedrops - composed of solvent). This was further supported by examination of macrophotographs of conjunctival capillarograms. Moreover, in this trial limited to 60 patients, no sign of intolerance was found. Thus, in view of the quick and significant attenuation of pain, lachrymation, photophobia and exudation by Cineraria Maritima Eye Drops, as compared to the patients who received placebo eyedrops are highly effective in Conjunctivitis.
